Where to Get Your Christmas Tree in Calgary

One of the best things about living so close to the forests that frame the Rockies is that Calgary families have plenty of options for a fresh Christmas tree. Before you head into the woods with your axe in hand, check out our picks for spots where you can get a great tree this year.

Junior Forest Wardens Christmas Tree Cutting Lot
Families can make a day of it by heading out to Kananaskis to visit this tree cutting area near Sibbald Creek. You’re allowed to cut up to three lodgepole pine trees, but we suggest asking for a demo on how to turn two trees into one gorgeously full tree. This lot operates from 9 am to 3 pm, Saturdays and Sundays from November 25–December 17. Cash or Cheque only.

Alberta Forests
Select the perfect evergreen from the forests out in Alberta’s beautiful wilderness. Simply pick up a $5 permit from Alberta Sustainable Resource Development to cut up to three trees in an approved forest area. Amp up the old-fashioned fun by toting a toboggan and a thermos full of cocoa. Just don’t forget your saw.

Raven Ridge Tree Farm
This tree farm has been family-owned and operated for over 25 years and allows visitors to either cut their own tree down, or choose one of the pre-cut trees. Bonus: they also offer handcrafted real Christmas wreaths from freshly-harvested Balsam fir boughs. The wreaths last for months, look incredible and smell amazing.

Cobblestone Garden Centre
Cobblestone is a year round home and garden centre, but every November, it transforms into a Christmas store with gifts, Christmas trees, decorations and firewood. Stop by to peruse the trees and gifts, or maybe check out the greenhouse with acres of Alberta’s finest plants.

Dress warmly and be prepared for photo ops (as in, wear your favourite hat) while you search out the perfect family Christmas tree this year. Bring on the holiday season!
