November is the true heart of fall. Crisp air, sweaters, piles of leaves and warm goodies from the kitchen. Busy moms always have half an eye on the holidays by now. But let’s not forget to enjoy the fall colours, pumpkin-spice everything, and our last few snowsuit-free days.

Storybook Theatre Presents Curious George: The Golden Meatball

The world’s most mischievous monkey is at it again! Audience members aged 3 and up will love this adorable story about George’s adventures on All-You-Can-Eat Meatball day! There are still a few chances to catch this fun-filled production before it’s gone, with showings at 6:30 on Friday and Saturday, and 11 am and 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year since the doors to the beautiful Central Library first opened in Calgary. Activities will be taking place all day long to celebrate the library’s first incredible year, and you won’t want to miss out. Clowns, magicians, hula hoop artists, aerialists, scientists, and even Mayor Nenshi will be joining in on the fun. There will also be a selfie station, arts and crafts, an author in residence, an artist in residence, a Friendship Round Dance and Elder’s Guidance Circle. Glenbow Museum’s Art Baby Tour

If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to visit the Glenbow Museum with your kiddos aged 2 and under but weren’t sure what the best time to do it was, you’ve found it. The Art Baby program allows parents with small children a chance to tour the museum in a baby-friendly environment. Admission is just $5 (2 adults per baby), and tickets are available at the door. The current rotating exhibits on display include Sybil Andrews: Art & Life, ExtraOrdinary Objects, and work by Gerald Ferguson. Storybook Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company are bringing the magic of Roald Dahl’s Matilda from the page to the stage in this Tony award-winning musical production. This two-act musical is recommended for audience members ages 6 and up, who are sure to be captivated by the story of Matilda, a young girl who harnesses her special powers to prove to the adults around her that there’s nothing a kid can’t do when she sets her mind to something.

The magic of Christmas is returning to Heritage Park for another year! Wagon rides, carols, Santa visits, musical performances, and cookie decorating are just a few of the fun-filled activities you can expect to find at this one-of-a-kind event. Travel back in time and enjoy an old-fashioned Christmas as you wander through the historical homes and buildings throughout the park. Don’t forget to stop for some delicious baked goods at the Alberta Bakery, get an Antique photo taken, and visit the Christmas train display. On the way out, take care of some of your Christmas shopping with unique gifts from the shops at Heritage Town Square and the stores in the Historical Village. Kids can even do a little shopping of their own at the ‘Kids-Only’ Store where volunteers help the littlest shoppers check off their lists as their parents relax in the lounge.

Did you know that November 20th is National Child Day and this year’s theme is, “It’s our right to belong”? To celebrate, Ralph Klein Park is hosting a variety of free activities and entertainment for the whole family from 1 to 3 pm. Arts and crafts, guided tours and bird watching are some of the fun things on the agenda for the afternoon, in addition to nature games and a performance by a secret special guest!

There’s lots to see and do in celebration of this year’s Grey Cup! On Wednesday, November 20th, check out the Tim Horton’s Kickoff Party at the Big Four Roadhouse between 6-7 pm. This all-ages event will include the arrival of the Grey Cup, live music and entertainment, and surprise guests. Then head over to Lot 3 at Stampede Park to join in the fun at the Nissan TITAN Street Festival, where there will be more music and entertainment, face painting, a 169’ Jiffy Lube Tube Slide, and more.
There’s tons to explore at the Indoor Family Fun Zone, including a toddler area, mini football field and activations from the Canadian Armed Forces, the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, and the Calgary Stampeders. Fireworks will end off the night with a bang at 9:00! The street festival and fireworks will take place each day from November 20 – 24, but special events will be added each day and night (including pancake breakfasts, parties and concerts), so make sure to visit the link to find out what’s happening each day so you don’t miss out!
