The Newest Elf on the Shelf Trend is Darkly Hilarious

Will an elf be arriving in your home on Thursday morning?

If your kids are really into this whole elf deal, but your enthusiasm is slightly more…tempered (why does he have to move every damn day? Can’t we get a cheat day?) then you might love the latest elf on the Shelf trend.

‘Poor Buddy fell and broke his leg, he has strict orders from Santa not to move for two weeks! Parenting WIN!!’ posted mom Courtney Boles on Facebook.

Boles’s photo has been shared over 31,000 times on Facebook. Most comments on the photo have been positive—with parents giving the creativity and originality two thumbs up.

‘Being the third Christmas [with the elf] it gets harder coming up with fast things to do.’ Said one commenter.

Boles left Buddy the elf with a note explaining that he had fallen and Santa had put him on strict orders not to move so that his leg could heal. However, Santa himself would be coming nightly to collect Buddy’s report. (So no slacking, kids.)

‘The kids thought it was great! My younger daughter has made him get well cards daily, and my older one takes a daily selfie with him. It worked great, and he is safe from the toxic hands of the 4-year-old.’ says Boles.

It would seem that more parents are catching on to the trend of the invalid elf. Today.com shared this image from mom Julie Bixen, whose family elf was down for a few days with a bad bout of the flu.

We only wish we could schedule our own recovery’s as precisely as the elf’s. Get well soon, little guy.
