Family Harmony

Sometimes we all need a break’€”a few minutes of calm, quiet and peace’€”even the kids.
Little Lotus Yoga is a great place to find harmony (and exercise) for the whole family.

Whether you’€™re expecting your first or your fourth, their Prenatal Yoga class is perfect for all stages of pregnancy. You’€™ll love the gentle stretches and breathing techniques that do wonders for body aches and pains, not to mention the sense of community that comes from meeting other expectant moms over the eight-week class. On bed rest? Little Lotus can even arrange gentle private lessons in your home.

Once baby arrives, start your recovery with a Mom and Baby class, which focuses on stretches to relieve the tense muscles that come from feeding, changing and carrying the wee one.

Kids as young as 2 years old are welcome at child yoga classes’€”either joined by a parent or on their own. Play-acting games, stories and toy-based activities help children find their zen and blow off a little energy, too. Older tweens will love their popular Parent and Youth class, which offers the chance for a little family time while exploring poses and peace for all skill levels.

Looking for some quiet time sans enfants? Drop off the kids at the brand new PJ Parties on Saturday nights, from 6 to 8 pm. Kids will be so busy with crafts, snacks, journaling and, of course, yoga, that they’€™ll hardly notice you’€™re gone. In the meantime, you’€™re free to unwind at a local restaurant.

Good to Know: Little Lotus Yoga offers classes all across the city, so check their website for a full schedule and list of locations. Prenatal, Mom and Baby, Preschooler and Parent and Youth Yoga will all run throughout the summer months.

If you love yoga, you’ll want to take a breather at these 10 Yoga and Fitness Studios in Ottawa.
