Summertime, Solved

Summer’s coming, and with it, the inevitable boredom that arrives soon after school ends. Avoid the pitfalls of ‘I have nothing to do’ by organizing their summer camps while there’s still space. Here are just a few of our faves on offer this summer.

If mountain biking is in their blood, they live in the right part of our fine country. Flow offers amazing programs for bigger kids in both North Vancouver and Burnaby. Experienced instructors cover a variety of techniques, including technical uphill, single track and trail building. Note some experience is necessary, mountain bikes should be in good working order, and camps run rain or shine, so be prepared for muddy laundry.

Not quite ready for the trails? If your kiddo’s goal is to lose the training wheels this summer, check out Pedalheads. The organization’s instructors have taught 175,000 kids how to ride since 1995, and saved thousands of us from throwing out our backs. You can choose from half-day or full-day camps, or sign them up for private lessons. With several locations around the Lower Mainland, check the website for one near you.

Creativity and kids go hands in hand, so register soon for the Arts Umbrella summer camps to avoid disappointment. Offering theatre, music, dance, visual and media arts, there’s something for everyone ages 3 and up. Both locations on Granville Island and in Surrey offer early drop-off.

Summer will be here before you can say ‘popsicle.’ Sort out your camp schedules now for a boredom-busting vacay that meets both your needs and theirs.
