10 Ways to Have Fun with Your Family in Vancouver
We've got the scoop on the best ways to keep the kids entertained without breaking the bank. Here are our 10 ways to have fun with your family in Vancouver.
-
Take a Ride
The Aquabus is a great, inexpensive way to get out on the water and take a short ride to Granville Island, Yaletown or False Creek. Regardless of which neighbourhood you start your voyage from, there are lots of fun, family activities to do ‘on land' as well.
-
Go for a Wobbly Walk
There is no shortage of great places to go for a walk or hike with the family in our great city, but if you're looking for a bit of a thrill, head to the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge, where crossing the wobbly bridge suspended 60 metres above Lynn Creek, is free. Don't forget to take in the beautiful scenery along the trails while you're there.
-
Go Dancing
If you have a daughter looking to test out hip hop, Highland or Bollywood dance classes, head to your local ivivva store to join their free community dance programs. West Vancouver's classes are Sundays at 9 am and Kitsilano's classes are Sundays at 9:30 am.
-
Go to a Family Centre
Family centres are a great way to meet other local moms, discuss parenting questions with the trained staff members, let your baby or toddler explore a new play area and even participate in a group sing-a-long. There are lots of options, but a couple of our faves are West Side Family Place in Kitsilano and the two I hope family centres in North Vancouver.
-
Take a Tour
If small boats are not your thing, head to Gastown for a ride on the Seabus or jump on the bus, Skytrain or Canada Line for a ride around town.
-
Visit a Fish Hatchery
The Capilano River Hatchery is just minutes away from downtown Vancouver. Learn about the species of salmon, fishing methods and more interesting information at the interpretive displays.
-
Go for a Bike Ride
West Dyke Trail in Richmond offers breathtaking views of the Sturgeon Banks marshes, Howe Sound Mountains and the Gulf Islands. This popular 5.5 km long path makes for a great afternoon adventure.
-
Hike in Burnaby
Both Deer Lake and Burnaby Lake have great trails to explore. Watch for animals in their natural habitats along the way, see some art while you're at Deer Lake at the Burnaby Art Gallery or check out the sports complex at Burnaby Lake.
-
Skate at Robson Square
The popular wintertime sport is fun for all ages. Skate with your family at Robson Square and participate in some of their other family-friendly activities, such as free Saturday night concerts and their Friday DJ series.
-
Visit Your Community Centre
Head to your local community centre for the mom and tot drop in programs. Meet new people, stay in shape and learn new skills in your neighbourhood.
