The 7 Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich Spots in Toronto
Kids leave plenty of food on their plates (you've got the overflowing, raccoon-friendly, city-issued compost bin to prove it). Don't grill them over it. Take them to one of these sandwich spots.

Sandoozles
Sandwiches are the speciality of this Midtown hangout, and their artisinal grilled cheese is a winner with our kids. If you'd like to try something a little more highfalutin, we love the Texas smoked brisket or pulled chicken varieties (made with local preservative- and antibiotic-free meats). PB and what?

Millwood Melt
Maybe it's their focus on locally grown food, but recently opened Millwood Melt is making a name for themselves with their cheesy (in a good way) offerings. It's one of the rare places to have a specific menu item for kids, the mini-melt. Try a specialty sandwich or concoct your own. Good To Know: They're only open at lunch from 11 am to 3 pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
-
The Construction Site
Survivors of a home reno will be familiar with the name, but The Construction Site has nothing to do with AWOL tradespeople and tile-shopping. Two locations (Sherway Gardens and Yonge & Eglinton) serve up their small and rotating menu of gourmet grilled cheeses, including a classic version the kids will eat up. Literally.
-
Cheesewerks
The base of Bathurst has been buzzing over Cheesewerks which opened last fall to rave reviews. The artisan cheese eatery continues to melt the mouths of patrons at its downtown spot. Good To Know: It's a worthwhile detour on the way home from Harbourfront or Queen West for a taste of their fruit-filled in-house sodas alone.
-
Leslieville Cheese Market
has many locations (Leslieville, Queen West and Donlands Ave.) which will be a relief when you want to feed ferociously hungry kids. Less adventurous youngsters may opt for the Classic Grilled Cheese, but if the fig and chevre is on the menu that day, it's a must. Sandwiches come with dipping sauces, which the kids will love. Good to Know: The shops are small so your order might be a take-out.
-
The Grilled Cheese
Kensington's The Grilled Cheese has become an institution in the area, serving up your basic bread, butter and cheese done oh-so-right, in an eclectic atmosphere. Good to Know: a small amount of seating is available and styrofoam containers are used for take-out orders so bring some eco-friendly options from home.
-
Melt
Lactose-loving locals west of High Park have their own grilled cheese haven in Melt Grilled Cheese. Select one of 11 different grilled cheese options and in less than five minutes your order will be up. Perfect for kids who can't wait for anything, especially food.
Good to Know: They only have bar stools for seating along a counter, and it's exceptionally busy at lunchtime with Humber students.
