Cool Airbnb Picks in the GTA and Beyond
My family and I are often wondering what it would be like to live in a different neighbourhood, city, or architectural type of home. We’ve envisioned ourselves on a farm, in a tiny house, off the grid, and firmly on the grid right in the downtown. But rather than planning on moving every ear, why not explore these options via vacations at some pretty awesome Airbnb listings? They smack of adventure, change and a style totally different from our own pastures. Some are in the GTA, and some are road-trip worthy. So no need to call the real estate agent – take a night, a weekend or even a week to explore one of these gems.

Cool in Cabbagetown
We have long loved the quirky vibe of Cabbagetown. The cottage, the Victorians, and the close proximity to Riverdale Park and Farm make this a great abode to hang out in for a while. The kiddos may be enamoured of the animal friends down the block, but we’re swooning for light, bright decor and clean lines that extend to the entire house.
From $189 a night.
-

An awesome country farmhouse, complete with acres of rolling fields. A tire swing in the barn. Wild animals like deer and rabbits hanging outside the door. These are just some of the wonderful features of this property, just an hour north of the city. The kids will get to immerse themselves in country living – perfect for the animal lovers.

It’s a dream come true, living in a treehouse. What could be more magical than sleeping amongst the trees, surrounded by nature? This one is also waterfront, facing a river, and comes complete with porthole windows, an outdoor shower, a loft, a firepit, and books galore. Rustic? Yes – because it’s a treehouse. Don’t forget to count the stars as you drift off to sleep.

Yurt Glamping Near North Bay
Yurts are cool, plain and simple. We love the tunnel opening to the stars, the round shape, and the wood stove keeping everything warm and toasty. Outside there are loads of trails, a plethora of berry bushes, and water for paddling or tubing. The kids will never stop talking about this one.

Converted Church in Kawartha Lakes
A gorgeous Gothic Revival style church built in 1869 converted into a loft-style home – we’re salivating. The space is all exposed brick and beams, bell towers and stained glass. And the location, just 1.5 hours from Toronto, offers loads of recreation. We’re also partial to the fresh fruit and muffins left out every morning (we do love being spoiled). There’s even an indoor swing…really. Add in the backyard firepit plus English country garden, and we’re just never leaving.
From $275 a night.
