Black-Eyed Peas
We just can't get enough of this.
You'll Need: Green clothes, black face paint (or eye patch), and green balloons (optional).
How to: Dress child in green from head to toe. For younger kids, use non-toxic face paint and draw a black circle around the outside of the eye—wide enough so they won't smudge it constantly. If you're feeling ambitious, blow up as many green balloons as you can and safety pin or glue gun them to their shirt. Add a friend or sibling, and you have black eyed peas in the plural.

Stegosaurus
Perfectly adorable for the onesie-wearing crew.
You'll Need: A one-piece-outfit, hot glue gun, self-adhesive Velcro dots and at least 10 or more kitchen sponges.
How to:Cut the sponges in half along the diagonal. Using a thick piece of ribbon or any old strip of fabric, attach the flat part of the sponges with hot glue along the strip so the sponge looks like a pointed vertebrae. Attach Velcro dots to the top and bottom of the ribbon, and to the respective spots on the onesie. The ribbon should be easy to remove and apply as needed for photo-ops or anytime.

Frizz-bee
It's not what you think, but that's what makes it funny.

How to: Dress baby or child in yellow and black, or get black electrical tape (or felt) to create stripes over a yellow T-shirt. Colour your child's nose black with non-toxic face paint. Pop a crazy wig on their head. And you have a bee, with frizzy hair. Frizz-bee…get it?

You'll Need: An old pair of pants, empty Smarties boxes or circles of coloured felt, a hot glue gun.

Head on a Platter
It's creepy but it's awesome.
You'll Need: Cardboard box, paper plates, glasses, plastic utensils, candlestick, bugs and creepy critters, face paint and a sheet or tablecloth.
How to: Use a box or measure a piece of cardboard to fit over your child's shoulders. Drape a sheet or tablecloth over it then cut out a hole in the middle to fit your child's head through. Glue two paper plates, knives, forks and napkins (candle sticks optional) to create a table setting. Make sure the sheet is short enough to make walking safe. Glue on plastic spiders, snake and creepy crawlies. Make up the face to look like a ‘Head on a Platter' and you'll be done like dinner.

Candy Floss
Make this sweet-as-can-be costume in a pinch.
You'll Need: A pink shirt and pants, Halloween ‘spider webbing' or tulle material, hot glue gun, pink tempera paint, a plastic spray bottle.
How to: Mix some pink tempera paint with water and lightly spray the cotton batting to make it pink. Let dry. Glue the webbing to the shirt and let it hang down like a dress. You can also glue some webbing to a couple of scrunchies and use them on your daughter's pigtails.
