Fencing
So your little one has been through the gamut of sports and is underwhelmed? Why not give fencing a whirl? It is fast paced, exciting, and teaches a variety of skills. We like My Fencing Club for kids who are new to the sport. En garde!
-
Table Tennis
We already know Ping Pong is tons of fun, but at the competitive level (at which point it's called table tennis) the fun seems to multiply. This Mississauga fab facility offers instruction for beginners and coaches are great with the kids. A variety of tournaments keep things interesting.
-
Rock Climbing
We love that Boulderz in the Junction offers weekly scheduled drop-off classes for when we really need to get a few things done. It's also great that their programs begin at age four and that the kiddos can progress through different levels all the way to the competitive Youth Climbing Team.
-
Ukrainian Dance
Looking for a different kind of dance class? This program not only includes performances, it encompasses education about the Ukrainian culture as well. Plus, adults can take classes at the same time for some truly ‘together' time or try the parent and tot program.
-
Kayak/Canoe Sprints
After watching the canoe and kayak races in the Pan Am Games, your little paddler (aged seven or up) is ready to race to bring home gold for Canada. Try the Mississauga Canoe Club for a combined spring, summer and fall program that may just have them podium bound.
-
Archery
So, that toy bow and suction arrow set just isn't cutting it anymore? Try archery for the kids or whole family. Fun and they can channel their inner feisty hero—Merida, Katniss, or Hawkeye—no wonder archery is popular again.
-
Lacrosse
Maybe they didn't get enough lacrosse this spring and summer. Or perhaps they've decided that this is the sport for them to try out. Either way, fall is a lovely time to play field lacrosse. And besides, it is our national sport.
-
Upper Canada Chorus
This group goes way, way beyond a typical choir to include retreats, mass performances and even touring options. A variety of rehearsal locations provide flexibility to a wide geographic spread. The repertoire spans Les Miz and Broadway, so we'll totally enjoy the performances (and try not to sing along)!
-
Hip Hop
Has the family been watching So You Think You Can Dance together every summer? Have the tykes got a certain swagger that they want to express via hip hop? Kids as young as three can start to learn hip hop. So if ballet, jazz and tap are not what the little ones have in mind, join Team Street and let their inner dancer shine.
-
Sailing
Did they catch the sailing bug at camp this summer? They can continue their love of the sport by learning how to race this fall on Sundays at the Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club in the Green Fleet Program. And maybe one day we can enjoy the privileges of the Yacht Club.
-
Surf or Stand Up Paddleboard
Whether you and the family dream of surfing the waves or covering some serious water on a stand up paddleboard, Surf Ontario has a lesson and a location for you. Book as a single or up to a maximum of three in a group. Hang Ten!
-
Trout Fishing
Make a family day trip out of the journey to Stouffville to Burd's rainbow trout farm. There's a great togetherness in fishing together, and it may develop into a lifelong love of the hobby. And yes, if no one in the family knows what they are doing there is staff on site to help! One caveat: you must keep the fish you catch.
-
Art en Francais
Got a kiddo who's in French emersion and who loves art? Why not try an art class en francais? Kids will get messy and learn many different techniques and forms of expression, all while continuing to further their knowledge of French.
