What to Do Thanksgiving Weekend in Vancouver

Don't baste your turkey yet—there are things to see and do this long weekend around Vancouver. Put these activities on your to-do list before you settle down for your feast.

These smorgasbord's of local produce will be shutting down soon for winter, so shop local for your turkey dinner. On Saturday October 10 visit the Burnaby Farmers’ Market, West End Farmers’ Market, or Kerrisdale Farmers’ Market. On Sunday October 11 check out the Kitsilano Farmers’ Market or the Steveston Farmers’ Market. Pair your Fraser Valley turkey with local veggies and savour the taste of your reduced carbon footprint.

Thanksgiving also marks the beginning of Halloween season in Vancouver. On Friday, October 9, the Ghost Train starts running in Stanley Park, and for the very brave among us, Fright Nights opens at the PNE.

We mean this in the nicest way—enjoy the crisp air and fall foliage and earn your pumpkin pie. If you’re up for a climb, try hiking Quarry Rock or head to the Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish for a hike on top of the Chief. Wade through the fallen leaves in Pacific Spirit Park for a flatter hiking experience.

The thing about kids is they’re always growing—head to the annual Whistler Blackcomb Turkey Sale for the best deals on new and used ski and snowboard equipment. Hint: have them try on last year’s kit before you go so you’ll know exactly what to target. The sale runs Friday, October 9 to Monday, October 12.
