Wears many hats, with the most prominent one being the Publisher of SavvyMom Media. Her exceptional organization skills and love of ‘process’, combined with her business training extends into other titles such as CFO, CTO and office design coordinator (she’s always happy to go to IKEA). She can be seen on television from time to time as a spokesperson for such brands as Proctor and Gamble, Joe Fresh and Sunkist—anything that helps busy moms stay organized and efficient (two of Sarah’s fave words). A SavvyMom to three children born in 3.5 years (which sometimes makes her feel like CrazyMom!)—Tess (13), Adam (11) and Laine (9), Sarah holds an Honours degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, where she met her husband of 18 years, Todd Hargarten. She honed her business skills for more than a decade as a management consultant with industry-leading firms, focusing on strategy and organization.
Widely considered an authoritative source of all things mom, kid and home-related by a large circle of friends, she is a true maven. Balancing her career and motherhood, Sarah found herself spending a large part of her time fielding calls from friends looking for recommendations “from diapers to dinner parties”. This very rewarding mom-advice role led her to share her strong consultative skills for finding the simplest and best solutions to life’s many tasks through SavvyMom.ca. In addition to her SavvyMom role, Sarah is a member of the Ivey Advisory Board.
Also wears many hats but her biggest one is that of Managing Editor and Chief Curator. Keeping content top-notch for our readers is her A job but she’s also a devoted brand ambassador and manages most of our communications with the media. She is pretty good at putting chairs together (from Sarah’s IKEA trips) and is exceptionally talented when it comes to testing out delicious EatSavvy meals that Jan Scott brings in from the Savvy kitchen. She is a SavvyMom to two sons—Ryan (16) and Michael (14). A graduate of the University of Toronto, Minnow went on to earn a Masters of Political Science from University College, Dublin, where she met her husband of 18 years, Rupert Hamilton. She chose to stay at home with her boys for six years after a start in marketing and promotion, working with such family-targeted companies as Colgate Palmolive and SC Johnson.
After many years spent marketing to moms pre-kids, Minnow had an epiphany after hers were born and set out to reach moms in a more meaningful way through SavvyMom. She knows that trolling the aisles of supermarkets, changing diapers and getting through the day with young children present some of life’s steepest learning curves. She is an expert at navigating the emergency department at Sick Kids’ hospital, has lived (and remained married) through two home renovations and has a built-in radar for bargains. Having become a conscientious shopper and active participant in the influential Mom consumer group, Minnow is now channeling her experience into action. SavvyMom subscribers will appreciate her passion, insight and humour. She is a founding board member of the Toronto Toy Tea, which, since 2005, has provided over 10,000 Christmas gifts to children in shelters across the GTA.
