I have to admit that when my youngest daughter started talking about Tombliboos, Igglepiggle, and Makka Pakka, I thought she was making stuff up. (She’s always had a very good imagination.) But if you have a pre-schooler, you probably know who I am talking about—the much-loved characters from In the Night Garden. We’ve got a fun contest on the blog this week for fans of In the Night Garden—5 copies of the newly released In the Night Garden: Let’s Make Music DVD, 5 In the Night Garden™ Character Collections and 5 In the Night Garden™ Mini Plush to give away. Just leave a comment here telling us who your favourite In the Night Garden character is and why, and you’ll be entered for a chance to win one of these 5 prize packages. One of my savvy responsibilities includes the selection and management of all the contests and promotions we run at SavvyMom. Our readers tell us they love them and entering contests in general, so I am always on the lookout for new ideas. So I was intrigued when I came across one of the current contests Melitta (the coffee company) is running. It’s to promote their new premium World Harvest line but the grand prize is not coffee—it’s a wine fridge and wine! Apparently coffee, like wine, is heavily influenced by where it is grown, so you can enter the contest by matching up regions and different coffee varietals. You can enter here. I must say, as a mom, coffee and wine are definitely life essentials for me, so I like the way they are thinking!

To start the contest off with a bit of winter flavour (and pay tribute to the 2010 Olympic Games), we are looking for outdoor winter family action shots for the month of February. Our February theme was outdoor family action shot, and we received a lot of wonderful winter family shots—thank you to everyone who participated! We are excited to announce that our February winner is a great photo taken by Marlene Vazquez from Calgary of her 10 year-old son, Anthony, enjoying a little downtime in the snow after snowshoeing in Kananaskis.

We also have to acknowledge adorable outdoor family action photo submissions from Amy Stuart from Whitehorse, Kady Lavallee from Milton, and Lisa Gilmore from Vancouver as honourable mentions. Amy’s 28 month-old son Everett is being a very helpful big brother, pulling his 11 month-old sister Tyne on a sled; Kady’s 4 year-old twin daughters, Hannah and Alora, are enjoying a day of sledding at grandma’s house; and Lisa’s child looks to be having a great time learning to ski.

For the past two years, SavvyMom has partnered with Royale to promote their online Reno-cation Contest. It’s always an easy one to write about and talk about because they’ve hit the nail on the head when it comes to knowing what moms want. For one, most moms would like to have their homes updated, renovated and refreshed—especially in the spring. But they would also love a vacation. And frankly, if given the choice between the two, it would be tough one to make. So Royale decided that the winner should get both—and that’s what we like about this contest. If you’re going to win, win big. You shouldn’t have to choose.
This year, Royale’s Reno-cation Contest is awarding the grand-prize winner a home renovation valued at approximately $13,000 and a week-long vacation (Caribbean cruise) valued at approximately $7,000, for a total prize value of approximately $20,000. This year, the contest will also feature 15 secondary prizes of the Luxury Royale Bathroom Collection (bathrobe and slippers), which will be awarded once per week for the duration of the contest.

I wrote about the Royale Renocation contest a few weeks ago, a contest we have partnered with Royale on over the past few years. It’s a great contest as I mentioned in my previous blog. I remembered that there is another feature that might spark your interest—with another chance to win. There are games on the site which are a bit of fun to play and offer a second tier of prizes to win.
The contest runs for 15 weeks and besides the Grand Prize of a home renovation and Caribbean Cruise vacation, there are 15 weekly prizes to be won. When you play one of the weekly games on the site you automatically enter twice—and increase your chance of winning. So even if you don’t win one of the prizes, you can at least have some fun trying! Our March theme was best birthday party photos, and we received a lot of wonderful birthday photos celebrating many happy occasions. Thank you to everyone who participated! We’ve been telling you about it for the past few weeks on SavvyMom, we put on a big display a booth at the Toronto BabyTime Show and we even hosted a fashion show to help promote it. My daughter likes all the characters exept for the Pointupines. She likes their dance. She sleeps with her plush igglepiggle and makka pakka. Whenever she cries and just have to sing makka pakka & Tombliboos song and she starts to laugh. When its time for the characters to go to bed she tells them night (thats good night for her).
