Each month we will be running a new Photo Contest—all you need to do is check our monthly theme here on the SavvyBlog, and then send us your fave savvy-themed-photo(s). If your photo is selected as our winner, you will see your work-of-art featured on our SavvyBlog, and win a great prize package! Some recognition and a gift—what more could a mom ask for?
What’s the Scoop?
Our Savvy-themes could include anything from the best 30-minute birthday cake, the messiest kid, most organized closet, to the most ingenious Halloween costume. So, bookmark this page and check back often to get the latest theme and to see if you are our monthly winner. This Month’s Theme
To start the contest off with a bit of winter flavour (and pay tribute to the 2010 Olympic Games), we are looking for outdoor winter family action shots for the month of February. This month’s prize for our winner is a gift certificate from My Kidsquarters valued at $75 (plus free shipping on your first purchase with the gift certificate)! Our February theme was outdoor family action shot, and we received a lot of wonderful winter family shots—thank you to everyone who participated! We are excited to announce that our February winner is a great photo taken by Marlene Vazquez from Calgary of her 10 year-old son, Anthony, enjoying a little downtime in the snow after snowshoeing in Kananaskis.

We also have to acknowledge adorable outdoor family action photo submissions from Amy Stuart from Whitehorse, Kady Lavallee from Milton, and Lisa Gilmore from Vancouver as honourable mentions. Amy’s 28 month-old son Everett is being a very helpful big brother, pulling his 11 month-old sister Tyne on a sled; Kady’s 4 year-old twin daughters, Hannah and Alora, are enjoying a day of sledding at grandma’s house; and Lisa’s child looks to be having a great time learning to ski.

Our March theme was best birthday party photos, and we received a lot of wonderful birthday photos celebrating many happy occasions. Thank you to everyone who participated! Our April theme was ‘kids in the garden’ photos, and we received a lot of great photos of children enjoying spring flowers and helping out in the garden. Thank you to everyone who participated! Our May theme for the photo contest this month was ‘Mom Photos’, and we received lots of great shots with proud Canadian mamas and their kids. Thank you to everyone who participated!

June is dedicated to the pets in our lives because they never get the attention they once did before the kids were born. So for the month of June, we’re looking for your fave pet photos: dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, fish, iguanas, horses, or any other pet you may have.

Our June theme was Fave Pet Photos, and a lot of great pet photos were posted on our SavvyMom Facebook photo wall. We changed our format this month and the winner was based on number of Facebook votes (by commenting “savvy” under a photo).
We’re excited to announce that our June winner, with the most SavvyMom Facebook fan votes, is a great shot submitted by Sandra Reale Trouche of her son, Alexander, and a horse. She has entitled it ”And then along came the horse…”.

We also have to acknowledge fun photo submissions from Isobel Russell of her dog, Clint Eastwood, sunning himself in Toronto’s Davisville Village, and from Sue Sinclair of herself with new puppy, Miga, a 6-week old black Labrador Retriever (named after the 2010 Olympic mascot). Our July Photo of the Month Contest theme was Summer Splash, and a lot of very cute photos were posted on our SavvyMom Facebook photo wall of children enjoying summer and getting wet. Thank you all for entering! It was an incredibly close race, with the most contest submissions yet, and we loved all the great photos that you shared with us.

For the month of August (in the spirit of “Gone Fishin’”), we will be taking a short break from the Photo of the Month Contest while we enjoy some summer splash time with our own kids. We entered into September with a back-to-school photo theme for our contest and received some fabulous entries of adorable kids getting ready to head into educational action. Thank you to all who entered and voted for our winners. This month, we added another twist to the contest with two winners: a main one voted by our Facebook fans, and one chosen by our members at SavvyHQ. We also had a sweet runner-up that we definitely wanted to share.

For those of you who have taken the time to post, vote, or simply peruse through the photos entered in our Facebook photo contest over the last few months, thank you. We at SavvyHQ have loved seeing the amazing array of pics from pets to summer swimmers to back-to-school shots. If you haven’t had a chance to see them, take a peek at our winning photo albums.
For October, we’re adding a little bit of spice to the mix. Knowing there’s a spooky holiday approaching, and knowing we’ve got some amazingly savvy moms out there who have such great ideas to share… we’re asking for a little something extra.
So from October 18 to 27 (that’s right, just over one week!), we’re asking our readers to submit a photo and instructions for a truly spooky savvy Halloween craft. It can be something as simple as a drawing your child made! Here’s what we’re looking for:
Take a photo of the craft to post on our Facebook fan page and put the instructions in the comment box. Then get your friends to come out and vote! After a week, we’ll go through the selections and post our readers’ top five faves. The top five will be displayed in a photo album on our Facebook page. The SavvyHQ team will select the winning craft from the five options. As well as having their craft featured on our SavvyBlog, the winner will receive prize pack of five gorgeous kids’ books (a great excuse to cozy up and read together).
