After lots of cooking and testing, we’re into our second edition of EatSavvy. It’s a lot of fun pulling these recipes together and especially testing them—but it’s even better because we have such a great team working on it. Denise Smith is our Food Editor who is diligent about making sure all of our ingredients are fresh, local and healthy for the whole family (I take my job of enjoying her culinary delights very seriously).

Holly Sisson, our Savvy Photographer and production artist makes everything look beautiful with the direction of Trevor Bond.

But as important as the presentation is, the food must taste good. And these meals do. They are fresh, simple and unintimidating. The perfect picnic ideas for any family whether you are in the backyard, on a mountain or at the lake.

I have been negligent with my blogging but I will be turning a new leaf as of today. I had a real life conversation (albeit on the phone) with my friend Kate Trgovac, a very web savvy consultant, blogger and founder of LintBucket Media  who gave me the slap on the hand I deserve. I need to blog more. So instead of using the age old excuse that “things are too busy at SavvyMom to blog today” I will be writing about all of the things that are keeping me busy. Sometimes they will be about SavvyMom but today they will be about one of my favourite things.

Today I want to talk about my dishwasher, which I adore. Last month I didn’t have one, and during that month I hosted about 6 dinner parties (the kids were at camp) and had a food shoot where we cooked (and cleaned up after) four different meals in my kitchen in day. I ate and cleaned for a month. At first I thought that saving water and the planet would help me through the trauma, but it didn’t.  I was never so happy to finally have my new Electrolux Dishwasher (with UltraQuiet Plus™ Sound Insulation) installed. I almost felt sorry for myself that I could get so excited about a big chunky appliance. Then, when I turned it on I thought it was broken. But it wasn’t. It was silent. My love grew. Now I sit writing this blog while my dishwasher is silently cleaning my dishes but only I know that because I am the one who turned it on. Thank you Electrolux for making a machine that can make women so happy.

I had to laugh (and remember those days) when I read the dishwasher story. We too didn’t have one for so long but now that we do…boy. How did we manage before?? Shortly after we installed one I wrote ‘it’ (the dishwasher) a love letter. Ha! You can read it here:

I’m new to Savvy Mom. Will visit again!
