When my husband and I were getting married, we had to meet with the minister who was performing the ceremony a few times so he could ensure we knew what we were getting ourselves into. On the first of these meetings, the minister turned to Todd and said “Todd, why do you want to marry Sarah?”  Expecting something oh-so-rose-mantic, I was quite taken aback to hear the answer:  “Because she is so organized.” Yes, organized – that’s the first thing he thought of as the basis of our relationship!

If you know me, you know that this is indeed one of my defining characteristics (OK, perhaps my most defining characteristic …in any case, I am glad that my husband appreciates it so much.) So, it was pretty exciting for me to have been recently selected to serve as a “maven” for Proctor & Gamble’s Home Made Simple program and to share all my ‘Organized Life’ tips and tricks for spring cleaning and organizing at a large media event last week. Stay tuned as I will be sharing some of them on SavvyMom Today soon too.

Kind of a dream really - being professionally recognized for being so organized!

I need a wife like that myself. But I’m a mother, a “savvyer” one, I think. Since I take care of my children’s education, family business, my own writing and publishing, and a dozen million other things, I leave the rest to my husband and everyone else. If my house is a jungle, let it be. This woman has only one head and four limbs, unfortunately.

And my father is a true savvy father. When he was criticized for not preparing his daughter to be a proper housewife, his reply was, “I’m not bringing up my daughter to be anyone’s housewife. So what if she cannot prepare dinner? When she finishes university, she can always marry a cook.”

Even though, the world spins just the same no matter I’m a proper housewife or not, I would still prefer to live in a cleaner house and to have a better organized life. If I were ever granted one savvy wish this life, I would wish to be born a husband next life. (Sorry, my personal experience and feelings. Don’t mean to offend anyone else out there.)

    Hi Sarah,

I was working on a Friday afternoon and heard a couple guys talking about “Savvy Mom” across the office.  I got curious, and apparently we were tracking how your website drives traffic to one of our client’s site “Canadian Scholarship Trust” (Savvy Mom is a very good performer I might add).  What a small world.

BTW - Congrats on being selected as a Maven - you will be great!  I concur about the “being organized thing” - you were the first and only university student Mel or I ever knew who organized their life with a Palm Pilot.

    Cheers,

    Ian
