Thank you all for your wonderful comments, sharing your fave recipes to bake, and taking the time to enter. We have five lucky winners and hope you enjoy baking up a storm. Congratulations to Stephanie Hobbs, Karen Burka, Lori Van Soelen, Amanda Gouveia and Chris MacDonald.

Here’s our original blog below:

If you’re planning on baking a cake this weekend for Father’s Day and are in need of some assistance or inspiration, you wouldn’t need to look any further if you were the proud owner of In the Sweet Kitchen: The Definitive Baker’s Companion by Regan Daley (Random House), an esteemed pastry chef at a number of Toronto’s top restaurants.

The cookbook was awarded the Cookbook of the Year Award by the International Association of Culinary Professionals and not only provides 140 great recipes, but also an informative overview of baking, the importance of choosing the right ingredients, shopping guides, technique guides (how to sift, fold or cream) tips and the occasional chemistry lesson. The photos are stunning and the recipes delicious—it’s definitely a go-to guide for baking.

And the good news is that we have five copies to give away this month on EatSavvy—just leave a comment on the blog here about what you like to bake before July 15 and we will conduct a random draw from all of them. That’s sweet!

I love to bake… especially on a rainy day.  My favourite at the moment is homemade oreo cookies.  I found the recipe on a blog that I follow called Smitten Kitchen.  It is simple, fun to do with the kids, and SO much better than the store-bought version.

I love to bake lemon squares. I always double the amount of fresh lemon juice so they’re nice and tart! Yum!

Mmmmm…I really do have a craving for some chocolate eclairs.
Crisp but light pastry with gobs of whipped cream filling, iced with dark chocolate. :)

I really enjoy fresh baked items, especially pudding cakes which have a sauce baked right along in the same pan. Those are my weakness, but I feel gives me strength after I’ve eaten it…that’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it! ;D

I like to cook from simple recipes and use the fresh ingredients of the season.  Also, I do have a picky 5 yr old - so, a little dab will do you is the way we get him to try new foods.

    for the cookbook giveaway…

I always go back to an amazing coffee cake recipe I found a few years ago…it’s simple, quick and everyone loves it.
My kids love helping me bake and since it does take too long to make they can stay involved the whole time and enjoy the results (there’s no actual coffee in the cake)

These days I’m loving to bake rhubarb crisp.  My whole family loves it and it’s something the kids can help make.

I LOVE baking!  I would much rather bake than cook, but eating baking all the time is not great for the hips!!  I love to make cheesecakes, squares and I do character birthday cakes for my kids and friends birthday parties.  I also like making muffins, loaves, etc.

    thanks,
    Lisa

I like to bake cookies! Especially if I have all the ingredients on hand and have the time. Otherwise, baking is out of the questions. I once made Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk Peanut Butter Cookies… yum!

I very much enjoy baking, especially at holiday time. My favourite thing to bake is cookies with my daughters though. I make the dough with their help amd then let them add whatever mix-ins they like. They then make the actual cookies. It is always fun to see what comes out of the oven!
