French Women Don't Get Fat Cookbook
Twitter See All Email

Sadly, I haven’t yet spent enough time in France to be able to say for myself whether French women get fat or not, but from the success of Mireille Guillano’s first book, French Women Don’t Get Fat, seems like many people are taking her word for it. Certainly, we can all appreciate her practical philosophy of not dieting per se, but rather eating both pleasurably and healthfully in moderation so that food is satisfying and sustaining.

And now she’s coming out with a companion book, The French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook, that hits the shelves on April 27. It’s full of easy-to-make, satisfying recipes that use fresh, seasonal ingredients, just like we like to do on EatSavvy.

What’s cool about her new book is that there are recipes for every meal. So far, I’ve tried the Potato Ragout with Peppers, Lemons and Olives and it was so delicious—great with fish—and the Fruit Salad with Quinoa, equally yummy. There is even a chapter on dessert (I can’t wait to try the Tarte au Chocolat) and lots of tips on entertaining, menu planning and more. The most intriguing recipe is a secret family breakfast recipe that is supposed to keep you full until lunch and help you magically lose weight. I think I am going to try it out for a week or two—after all, I have nothing to ‘lose’.

Wanna try it with me? We’ve got five copies of this delicious book to give away. Just leave a comment on the blog here before April 30 and we will conduct a random draw from all of them. Bon appétit!

I think these kinds of cookbooks are what every mom should have in their cupboard!  We have to cook for our kids and families to ensure good health!!  With all the “buzz” of fresh ingredients and local farmers markets these days…books like these can be put to great use!  Anything to make moms’ jobs “easier” and less intimidating in the kitchen is a huge win for families (especially kids!) who get to eat home cooked meals everyday together!

    Hello
It’s always nice to try different recipes, esp ones that contain chocolate.  You got my attention when you put chocolate and tart together sounds yummy.
I also liked the comment you have nothing to lose.  I respect those words esp when trying new and different situations.  If you don’t try you won’t know!
    Enjoy!

Yeah!!! I’m soooo excited that a cookbook is coming out from this series.  Years ago, in my late teens, I had the opportunity to travel to the south of France and stay with a family there for a week.  Their eating rituals were so refreshing and I was inspired to approach each meal with slowing down, enjoying each bite and having dessert too.  It’s all about balance.  If I don’t win the book I’ll definitely buy it soon :-)

My hubby is a chef at a french restaurant, but I like to cook as well and I’m always trying to impress him. I would love to be able to pull off a classic dish and wow him. He taught me how to cook! Heard a lot about this book, would love to own a copy

With the success of Julie and Julia, the timing couldn’t be more perfect for a French cook book!

I get great pleasure out of eating, so I would love to win this cookbook.  Also, it would be another book to add to my collection.  But especially, it would help me to eat in moderation while eating pleasurably and healthy.  I’m always looking for recipes to help with my “diet”.  So, I do have something to ‘lose’, or ‘win’!!  Thank you.

Hi everyone - good luck with the contest and thanks for all the comments. The book will be available starting April 27 at all major book stores. If you are in Toronto, Mireille is going to be here on Monday, April 19 at the Bay/Bloor store for an appearance. We didn’t get permission to excerpt any recipes so we can share the recipe for the Magical Breakfast Cream here but it’s worth buying the book for!
