Getting Started with RSS

  • "RSS" stands (there are a few different theories) for "Rich Site Summary," "RDF Site Summary," or "Really Simple Syndication." Whatever the meaning of the abbreviation, RSS is a format that websites use to distribute content and an increasingly popular way for users to keep track of update to their favourite websites (like Savvymom.ca of course!)
  • Subscribing to our RSS feed means you can receive all of our fresh content automatically without having to visit our website over and over again
  • In order to view a feed you need a feed reader. All modern web browsers (Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer 7/8) allow you to view feeds within the browser itself but you can also view feeds through a web-based interface or a desktop application. The reader aggregates the feeds to which you subscribe, in most cases displaying content in an abbreviated form with a link to the full text or audio/video file. Once you've picked an RSS reader, you'll need to choose some RSS feeds. Look out for the RSS icon RSS , which indicate the presence of an RSS feed.
  • Savvymom.ca offers several different RSS feeds— there are feeds for our bi-weekly newsletters as well as our blog updates
  • In subscribing to our RSS feeds you accept and agree to our Terms of Use
