Why specialize when you can generalize? New prevailing wisdom suggests it’s wise for kids to explore a variety of different sports rather than focus on just one…especially at the tender age of three or four or five.

Yoga, dance, music and drama blend nicely into the creative movement category for the preschool crowd. These fun, creative programs allow kids to use their imaginations while building strength, flexibility and focus.

Enter Soul Connexion, located at Calgary’s northern border (in Symon’s Valley Ranch). Their Mini Movers program runs from 9:30 am to noon, three times per week, all year round (you can register annually or for a 12-week session). It gives preschoolers the opportunity to explore art and fitness while mom explores alone time (yes, we said alone time).

Snack break, story time and intro to socialization are good ways to gently encourage independence for kids not enrolled in formal preschool as well.

Other programs on-site include Family Yoga, a range of mom and baby fitness classes and Kindermusik. The facility is available for birthday parties, as well as yoga and dance for grown-ups.

We love the bright, open studio space and reception area. Drop-in programs cost a standard $17 per class or register for their 12-week or annual programs. Some of the classes are already underway but owner Cara Poppitt assures us there is space in many programs. Contact Soul Connexion to confirm.

Get your kids (and yourself) up, out and moving this fall with creative programs designed to strengthen, lengthen and build confidence for those winter sports just around the corner.
