Mother’s Day Done Your Way

A Great Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day Done Your Way

News flash—it’s almost Mother’s Day. If you actually needed that reminder then you definitely need help with planning your day of rest. Here are some elegantly easy and fuss-free ideas to help your loved ones celebrate you.

For the Pampered Mom
A blissful day out at the spa is always a welcome treat, and two quite different experiences have recently opened in town to tempt us. Creamery, in the Eau Claire market, brings skin and body care to a very personal level. Customized butters, scrubs, oils and creams are made in a galley-style kitchen using natural products that your skin will love—and are good enough to eat. The popular Sante Spa has opened a cool retreat on the top floor of the Hotel Le Germain. They offer facials, massages, mani-pedi options and couples treatments. It will leave you feeling fresh and revitalized—even if you’re a mom to toddler twins!

For the Domestic Goddess Mom
Take a break from the kitchen and head to a special Mother’s Day brunch. We like the brunch at the zoo, then spending the day wandering about with a full tummy, watching the animal moms with their babies. With three different seating times and a craft activity for the kids, it’s sure to be a hit for everyone (happy kids make a happy mom after all). Tickets must be purchased in advance so don’t wait.

For the Fitness Mom
Take your bikes for a tour around the Glenmore Reservoir to check out the new spring buds. Pack some wild birdseed to tempt the chickadees to land in your hands, and stop at one of the many playgrounds that circle the dam. Surprise the kids with a stop at Heritage Park on your way around to see Thomas the Tank Engine

For the Enlightened and Cultural Mom
The Royal Canadian Circus is in town, bringing with them elephants, horses, clowns and daredevil performances. The show is family friendly for all ages, and tickets start at $20. If an evening out with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra is more to your liking, the CPO will perform the sultry Bolero (think date night) on May 11 and 12.

Mother’s Day is your day—make sure it stays that way. Tested by Fiona H., Calgary
