Big Bunny Fun

Easy Easter Activities
Big Bunny Fun

Easter is right around the corner and for many children, a visit from the big bunny ranks up there with a house call from Santa and a stopover from the Tooth Fairy. It’s a great weekend to leave the mitts, toques and scarves at home (cross your fingers) and breathe the fresh air of spring outside.

At Butterfield Acres, there are several activities taking place Easter weekend including the Great Legendary Easter Hunt. Tickets are limited. However, the farm is open to the public from 10 am to 4 pm on weekends.

The Calgary Zoo welcomed a new baby giraffe this winter (get in on the naming contest closing April 20). Visit this amazing animal on Easter weekend and enjoy free add-ons such as a scavenger hunt, games and entertainment Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm.

You can also join Peter Rabbit and celebrate spring at Fort Calgary’s Spring Fever Festival Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. The event is free for the under 18 crowd.

We love brunch at the Naturbahn Tea House at Canada Olympic Park (call 403-247-5452 to reserve) because the view is spectacular. Skiing may be finished for the season at the COP, but the mountain resorts are still going strong. Don a full bunny costume (ski bunny, get it?) and receive a free lift ticket at Nakiska on Easter Sunday.

Heritage Park also hosts an Easter Brunch complete with scavenger hunt and traditional egg decorating. If you’d rather serve pancakes in your PJs but still want to tackle an Easter craft, visit Kensington Art Supply and pick up their how-to-make Ukrainian Easter Eggs Kit or check out our savvy ideas for making Easter crafts and goodies.

Finally, whether you spend your day in or out, Easter is about chocolate. Calgary has a few higher-end chocolatiers including Choklat in Inglewood and Bernard Callebaut for bunny-shaped sweets. Take a self-guided tour of their factory on Macleod Trail after you buy and don’t forget to ask for a sample (they are located behind the cash register).

Celebrate babies, brunch and bunnies on Easter weekend, pray for sun and keep an eye out for crocuses and tulips soon to come.
