Boot Scoot on Over

Calgary Stampede
Have you heard of these new Stampede features? Find out more.

From infinity and beyond, everyone looks forward to The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. We hope you’re ready, because it kicks off tomorrow.

The Calgary Stampede is where city slickers and cowboys come together for 10 days of F-U-N, and there is plenty of opportunity for the little ones to get in on the action, too.

It would be a shame to spend all day boot scootin’ around the stampede grounds and not see it all, so we’ve compiled a rundown of what’s new for this year—especially for folks with little cowpokes in tow.

SEE
Take in the parade, as it’s not every year that we have royalty come to town. Score some seats in the shade (go early and send reinforcements if you must to hold your spot) and watch Will, Kate and Calgary’s finest march by. The popular BMO Kids’ Zone has moved next to the Agricultural buildings, so if you need a diversion, the kids can check out the professional freestyle soccer players, or meet characters from their favorite Treehouse TV shows. If Loonette from the Big Comfy Couch, Dorothy and Wags from The Wiggles, Chuck My Talking Truck, Barney or My Little Pony light up the eyes of your little cowboys or cowgirls, then make sure you stop by for that special Kodak moment.

EXPERIENCE
The Enmax Ice Show is a world class line-up of ice skaters and acrobats in a high energy show for the entire family. Set to favorite rock-and-roll anthems, it’s bound to be a crowd pleaser for all ages. There are at least three shows daily and it’s free with your admission.

EAT
The Midway treats have outdone themselves again. This year features such delights as the turkeytini, doughnut burger and pork chop-on-a-stick. Also new is a twist on a Canadian fave—try 10 different flavours of poutine. As an alternative to all things deep fried, take a trip over to the Indian Village to sample bannock, a classic native flatbread.

DO
Looking for what to do next? The stampede has introduced a new texting program. Text NEXT to 313131 for helpful suggestions to make every minute of your visit count (standard messaging rates apply).

Stampede would not be the same without the kids’ favorite Super Dogs, miniature chuck wagon races, cute baby ranch animals, and of course the rides returning each year. Be sure that you fill up at a pancake breakfast in your neighbourhood by checking FlapJackFinder so that you can outlast the kids.
