Cake It On

Birthday Cakes

Come on baby, light their fire. Spark up a birthday candle or two and celebrate. No need to stress the details of this annual dessert. Take our advice and let your kids have their cake and eat it too.

We crave Crave. Crave Cupcakes and Cookies that is. Their cupcakes are absolutely addictive and their minis with butter cream icing are perfect for little hands. Pick up a cupcake tier while you’re there for an extra sweet display (a few extras for parents doesn’t hurt either). Order at least a week in advance to ensure timely arrival.

Sugar Shack Cakes is run by baker, entrepreneur and mom Lisa Leavitt. Unlike other bakeries, Lisa does not use cake kits but creates her designs from scratch using even your wildest ideas (think 3-D) in her inspected home commercial kitchen. Sugar Shack Cakes is a one woman show so phone way ahead to book and plan a trip to the NW burbs for pick up.

If you’d rather stay south, Glamorgan Bakery is a taste-treasure. For over 30 years, Glamorgan Bakery has concocted traditional slab birthday cakes that are baked and decorated onsite. Let your child tag along and choose their fave design. (Good to know—don’t even think about leaving without a bag of their delicious cheese buns in hand.)
