The Calgary Corn Maze
children in corn maze

It’s hard to believe it’s the last week of summer vacation. It’s back to reality in a mere seven days…so absorb as much summer fun as you can for now with a trip to the farm.

The Calgary Corn Maze is not just any farm. It’s a miniature version of the real thing complete with donkeys, piglet races and tractors perfect for an afternoon out of doors.

If images of Children of the Corn come to mind, rest assured that these corn fields are completely safe. In fact, the cooler summer temperatures have stunted the crops slightly, making it possible for many adults to actually see home base over top of the greenery. With that said, we did find the trip through the maze to have moments of tension because the winding paths all look the same (which is the point).

There are three mazes: two longer mazes that have been cut into the fields in the shape of a T-Rex and a shorter maze where you dip your fingers in colour pots at five checkpoints to emerge with a rainbow hand. Tackle this one if you have toddlers or preschoolers on foot.

After you complete the corn maze, stick around to feed the animals in the petting zoo, challenge your children to a floating duck race or take a ride on the “train” with cars pulled by a ride ‘m mower. A good-sized playground, straw bale mountain and cow-roping station complete the experience. There are covered picnic tables and a concession on site as well. Ask them about their birthday party packages.

Don’t be laze(y). Spend the last of your summer daze in a maze. The kids will love it.
