Freshly Delivered

Organics Delivered
Online food shopping can be a naturally organic part to your day.

The fast pace of family life makes us want to join the slow food movement, but we don’t think we have the time.

Consider a new and efficient way to streamline your meal making by cutting back on trips to the grocery store and ordering your fresh produce to be delivered, instead.

Organics Delivered is a new service in Calgary that promises prompt delivery of fresh, certified organic produce to your doorstep every Wednesday or Thursday evening (or bi-weekly if you so choose).

Organics Delivered gets the produce directly from the farm to you within 24 hours. They don’t ever store food in a warehouse or buy food from middlemen. The majority of the produce comes unpackaged (berries are one exception) in either a reusable plastic tub (regular size) or recyclable cardboard box (small size).

The company purchases as much local produce as possible and then widens their net to include many BC products (thankfully), and fruit and vegetables from Ontario farmers as well. Some produce travels across the border from California and even as far as South America where most of the produce comes directly from Fair Trade Certified farms.

Deliveries come in two sizes: regular and small. The regular box consists of approximately 14 to 15 varieties of fruits and veggies and feeds a family of four for up to two weeks. The small box contains 11 to 13 varieties and feeds a smaller family for the same time frame. The box is approximately two thirds veggies and one third fruit.

Good to Know: You can’t choose what goes into the box but you can specify which fruits or veggies you don’t wish to receive. Keep in mind that sometimes the items you didn’t think you wanted become the most popular. And in an informal price comparison, even the most expensive Organics Delivered box was at least 10 percent less expensive than the same items at other organic grocers (online and traditional storefronts).

Buy yourself a little time to devote to healthy family choices. Go organic, go online and go home.
