The Calgary Farmers’ Market is back. So take a trip to the new Blackfoot Trail location and check out the vendors and sprawling new digs.
The renovation of the once-upon-a-time antique mall was completed this spring. The building is safe and (dare we say) fabulous on the inside, and filled with lots of great vendors offering holiday fare.
The space has grown by 15,000 square feet and includes a brand new food court (seating for 200) complete with vaulted ceilings, skylights and doors to one of two outdoor patios.
The market has also constructed a down-on-the-farm-themed play area (no more bouncer). There’s no age and height limit set, but at first glance we’d say six and under.
Look for new vendors in the market (and on their new website), including food court stalls like Silver Sage Burgers serving primarily grass-fed, free-range beef (no feedlot, synthetic hormones or therapeutic antibiotics), Los Chilitos Tacqueria and Fratello Coffee Roasters’ first retail location.
Down the aisle, The ATB Financial General Store is also new and dedicated to bringing more organic products to the market. This Heritage Park-esque stall also allows small, organic producers a way in to the market without a storefront all their own.
You’ll find many of your old favourites at the market including The Cherry Pit, which is rumoured to have a complimentary vegetable-prep service for patrons. In fact, the vast majority of vendors were also represented at the old Currie Barracks Market (think 85%) and are listed on the new and improved Calgary Farmer’s Market website.
The now includes regular Thursday 11 am to 7 pm hours on top of the old Friday, Saturday and Sunday openings.
And speaking of the weekend, you may want to plan for a trip with the kids to get all your goodies for your holiday meal.
Parking is at the back. Sounds like a Chinook Mall slogan, but it’s true. There’s lots of parking, loads of farm fresh products and a long list of extras like entertainment and goodies to entice you to the market this weekend (and every weekend after that).
To market, to market. That’s all we’ve got.
