Pop the Cork(age Fee)

Bring Your Own Wine

Babies are a little like stars (the gassy, brilliant variety in the night sky). They explode on to the scene and generate little galaxies. And like the Milky Way, most babies owe their position in the cosmos to one big bang.

Of course we’re talking about the spark linking you and your partner that started it all, and we know that keeping that original flicker alive is one of the keys to a blissful relationship and contented family.

Date nights are a fashionable way to reconnect with your partner but (we hate to admit it), the household budget often negates that night on the town. We found that if you scratch the cost of a bottle of wine off your restaurant cheque by taking advantage of BYOW, you can cut the cost of going out in half (and potentially enjoy a nicer bottle of vino).

Many restaurants in Calgary allow patrons to bring their own wine to dinner while many charge a corkage fee ranging from $10 to $35. Some have wiped out the corkage fee altogether or offer corkage-free evenings.

We’ve rounded up a list of some available options for you (because we believe in that spark), so click here for a listing of restos that don’t charge a corkage fee and click here for the restos we found around town that offer free corkage one night a week.

If it’s a special occasion, you know you can’t go wrong with Teatro, but if you are looking for what we think is the best deal in town, we say St. Germain (and bring a nice bottle).

A chef, server, kid-free conversation and vino from the store down the street. Sounds like elements of a light-my-fire kinda night.
