T is for Thank You

End of Term Teacher Gifts
T is for Thank You

Your mission today, if you choose to accept it, is to buy a thank you gift for your child’s teacher.
We all know that A is for Apple but when you want to get to the top of the class in the teacher’s gift department, get creative with a few of our favourite ideas that all fall into the under $25 range.

Crave Cupcakes arguably makes the best cupcakes in the world (or at least in Calgary). Wrap up a mixed dozen mini cupcakes for $17.95. Don’t forget to sample one yourself. The chocolate cupcake with vanilla icing (blue) is to die for.

Following the food trend, present the teacher with a home-made movie gift pack of easy to make microwave popcorn and movie rental gift certificates. Fill a brown paper bag with 1/2 a cup of popcorn kernels, fold over the top and write the cooking instructions on the outside along with a little message from the favourite student. Tie with your favourite ribbon. The instructions? Microwave for 2-3 minutes (time varies depending on microwave) then top with butter or salt if desired.

A great green alternative to traditional flowers for Teacher is a potted herb garden. Fill a terracotta pot with herbs like basil, cilantro, mint and lavender. Sunnyside Greenhouses is always a good bet.

While a spa gift certificate is an out-of-this-world gift for men and women alike, for under $25, we’re usually prepared to settle for an eyebrow wax and bottle of nail polish. For better ‘spa value for money’, visit The Professional Institute of Massage Therapy where you can get a professional massage from a trained therapist working to get certification hours. The beauty is that an hour session only costs $20. (Good to know: request a student who has almost completed the training program.)

Bubbles Car Wash, long a savvy fave in Edmonton, recently made their Calgary debut. They do a top notch job of getting your car spick and span (ready for that summer road trip). Your teacher will appreciate sipping a coffee and watching Bubbles employees scrub and vacuum for them. A $25 gift cert will almost cover an interior/exterior wash.

The last step? Adorn that creative gift with the most important element of all, the handmade card with child-crafted letters that spell t-h-a-n-k-y-o-u for a wonderful year.

Mission accomplished.
