A little more time. A little more love.
That’s what moms really want for Mother’s Day and we’re here to help with that. So whether you’re looking for things for mom and mom-in-law (and she’s not even YOUR mother) or just hoping someone else gets a little inspiration (like maybe by forwarding this message to the person with a blank look on their face), we’ve got some great ideas for Mother’s Day gift giving.
The Gift of Time
Moms already gone out and bought sunhats for everyone else in the family but she likely won’t get around to thinking about her own summer hat until winter hats are already in the stores. Save her the July ‘hunt in vain’ with a gorgeous sunhat from Snapdragon Designs ($45), one of our fave mom-run businesses.
Give Mom a ‘tea break’. Bundle up a certificate for an hour of child-minding and the limited edition Tea for One tea set (comes with two gourmet teas) from Language of the Leaf ($31), so she can curl up with a good book for an hour of peace and quiet.
Help mom cross ‘organize CDs/load iPod’ off her list with an iPod loading package from cdripping.ca. We just used them and they ‘rocked’ our music world (forgive the pun) with their great service. Now all our CDs are finally loaded (4 years later) on that iPod we got for Mother’s Day 2004, with all the correct metadata too…phew! (From 99 cents per CD.)
And we’re making an exception on the ‘no appliances’ rule for the iRobot 530 S Roomba robotic vacuum cleaner ($369.99). It cleans the floor, self-adjusting from carpet to hard floors, and automatically returns to its home base to recharge. We promise mom won’t miss her nightly sweep of the kitchen floor. (The 570 model also currently available at Costco right now for $349.99.)
The Gift of Love
If the Mom in question sometimes feels guilty about the hours worth of unedited home video of her children that she never watches (let alone edits), send the tapes off to Sugar Sugar Video along with other favourite photos and mementos and an amazing montage video comes back, guaranteed to make mom cry…in a good way. (From $199)
Want to show your own creativity along with the love, but not feeling so crafty? Pick up the Hallmark Colour Your Own Frame Kit (available at all Hallmark Gold Crown Stores across Canada). Decorate one of the three backgrounds (there is one for Mom, one for Grandma and one blank one) and pop in a picture just for her—she’ll be touched by all the effort you went to. ($9.99)
Let mom keep the kids close in hand from drop-off to pick-up and everywhere in between with the Tim Key Ring from Suetables ($70) that can be customized with the children’s names.
More time. More love. Now that’s a Happy Mother’s Day.
