Mistaken Identity

Mabel's Labels/Mini Sharpie
Mistaken Identity

Pencil case—black hole. New left running shoe—off to the lost city of Atlantis. Favourite Thomas train piece—must have ended up in the same place that all those lost socks go.

School’s been back for just over a week and already three critical things have gone astray, you’ve had to run out to Staples just before closing time twice to replace missing school supplies, and you’re starting to realize you need to come up with a plan to avoid having to buy yet another new lunchbox by the end of September.

Allow us to introduce you to two of our favorite solutions for this every-mom dilemma and help arm you for this valiant self-identification effort.

Mabel’s Labels promises to reduce your workload with their fantastic dishwasher-and microwave-safe stick-on-labels that can be used on cups, toys, books, sunscreen bottles, lunchboxes, wipes containers, show-and-tell items, sports equipment—pretty much anything; their stick-in shoe labels (You’ll LOVE these ones—have you ever tried to get your marker inside a kid’s shoe and then write legibly?); and their iron-ons which are so simple to apply, it’s worth the trip downstairs to the ironing board.

Try the combo pack to start—one set of stick-on labels (40), one set of iron-on labels (50) and one set of shoe labels (24). Two color palettes are available—their standard red, green and blue labels, or Mabel’s “princess pack™” in pink, lilac and raspberry. You can also customize the labels with your child’s favourite image—from butterflies to firetrucks, the hardest part is choosing as they are all adorable. The price is definitely more than a piece of masking tape (perhaps your former solution?), but these labels are well worth every penny. Savvy Moms have had success in getting their kids to be more attached to their stuff by letting them choose their own stickers. (At least Dora made it home that one day from show and tell.)

And, for those things that somehow escaped your initial flurry of labeling activity, get yourself a super-cute Mini Sharpie. With a cap clip that allows you to carry it on your key chain, you are now equipped to label anything you missed at drop-off with flair. Impress the teachers with your real-time labeling capability. Comes in 12 colors—you can choose your fave, your kids’ fave or even the official school colours.

Warning—labeling is highly addictive. SavvyMom cannot be held responsible for your sense of satisfaction.
