“Chug-a-chug-a-chug-a-chug-a-choooo- chooooooooooo. Open the tunnel, the train is coming through……
What’s the matter, cupcake? Don’t you like the din-dins mommy chopped, cooked, pureed, blended and froze in the ice cube tray? Then defrosted and warmed it to the perfect temperature so you can gobble it all up and be a big strong boy just like Daddy.”
Tired of breaking your back in the kitchen only to find the food ejected back onto your (well worn) bosom?
There are better options, three in fact, and we have tested them all, for moms who are inclined to lose sleep over the quality and quantity of their little one’s food intake (and let’s face it, that’s all of us).
These new to the market products are all about yummy for baby, convenience for mom and using the best healthy organic ingredients.
(Now really is the best time to be a baby.)
BOBOBABY launched in April 2005 as the first certified organic vegetarian frozen baby food on the market. All BOBOBABY meals are certified organic and kosher and contain no added salt, preservatives, sugar, colouring, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, dairy, eggs, sesame, fish, shellfish, poultry or meat. Available in over 200 stores across the country—Save-On Foods, Capers, Choices, IGA, Whole Foods, Noah’s and other health food stores near you. What we love: BOBOBABY uses ancient grains such as quinoa and amaranth and all their baby food is free of the nine most common allergens.
Sweetpea Baby Food is the latest entry to the market and making a big splash. They, too, are fresh frozen, certified organic, with no preservatives and offered up in 25 ml ice cube style trays. They are widely available at Grocery Gateway, Longos, Whole Foods, Pusateris, and health food stores across Canada. Check their Where to Buy page for more. What we love: The broccoli tastes like the finest soup from your fave French resto and the blueberry banana is good enough to go in your morning smoothie.
Healthy Sprouts will be hitting the stores mid-March so keep on the lookout at your local grocer and health food stores across the country. Also fresh frozen, and certified organic with no added sugars or starches, it’s another great choice for baby’s dinner. What we love: The handy packaging—it comes in packs of eight individual 50 ml servings called “grab and go cups” which are great for on-the-go moms and babies.
Now, go make something in the blender for yourself this week.
