Ottawa has plenty to offer in the way of outdoor activities this time of year—skating, skiing, sledding—but not everyone in Ottawa considers themselves “outdoor people”. That’s why we’re always on the lookout for fun things to do with our stir-crazy kids.
Indoor playgrounds might just be the answer you’re looking for, and Tubes & Jujubes in Gatineau is a great way to get the wiggles out.
Tubes & Jujubes is located in an industrial area in Gatineau, right next to the old Wakefield steam train station. It’s a bright and cheerful environment in which to spend an afternoon with your family. Think of it as a giant padded jungle gym. A network of tubes, stairs, and slides cover the warehouse-style interior. Play areas are carpeted and cushy mats are everywhere.
Our pint-sized testers gave the slides rave reviews. A red one offers a steep drop, and a trio of wavy slides is perfect for racing with newfound friends. The separate area for under-threes is an ideal place to hang out with toddlers while older sibs run amok on the scary black tube slide.
We spotted lots of dads in the mini soccer court and in the ball arena turned kid-friendly shooting range (we never thought we’d use that phrase here at SavvyMom). We did insist that they shoot at the targets and not at each other, but the balls were so soft that we didn’t worry too much. So we called a truce and went to the ball fountain where we watched a geyser of balls come shooting out the top.
It’s like great balls of fire. Goodness gracious.
