If you celebrate Easter, hop to it: you have one more week to get your Easter Bunny act together.

If extremely special chocolate is what you’re after, we’re well acquainted with the spots our furry friend frequents in these parts. But we’d still like to give Stubbe a special mention after more rave reviews about their complex chocolate bunny castle, chocolate egg house (complete with Easter chick), and various truffle-filled, egg-shaped chocolate boxes.

Sugarplum Fairy Home Baking was a big hit with SavvyMom readers at Christmas, and has a new range of baked goods and packages for Easter, with free delivery to some areas. Specialties include paska (a Russian Mennonite Easter bread), Rolo cookies, lemon squares, seafoam chews, and an assortment of pies including frozen peanut butter, Acadian sugar and key lime. This year there will also be homemade Easter Cream Eggs: creamy white centres with a lemon-yellow “yolk” coated in milk chocolate and drizzled with dark chocolate for just $2 each. Order ahead (preferably by April 16).

If your egg hunt is ready to roll, you can move on to planning brunch. We forgot how much we love Stoneface Dolly’s on Preston Street, a place that will particularly suit gourmands who appreciate a chat with the always-friendly owner.

If Easter has you wanting to put on your best bonnet, try Wilfrid’s at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. The dress code is smart-casual and the food impeccable. West-enders, especially those who love brunch with a bit of Asian flare, will appreciate the menu at Brookstreet Hotel’s Perspectives Restaurant.

For the non-traditionalists, what about a little dim sum on Easter morning? We think the Yangtze Dining Lounge fits the bill. Dim sum is such a boisterous affair that any noise the kids make just blends right in, and you won’t have to battle Easter line-ups.

If you’re looking for some active fun during the Easter long weekend, visit the Billings Estate National Historic Site, where your kids can meet the Easter Bunny, make chocolate, and dye eggs. The Canada Agriculture Museum also has Easter activities planned from April 22 to 25. You can meet baby lambs, rabbits and fluffy chicks, and children aged six and under can join in chocolate Easter egg hunts while their older siblings compete to look for signs of spring.

Get outside, take a deep breath and enjoy the fabulous scent of melting mud. In Ottawa, that’s often synonymous with Easter—and it’s just around the corner!
