The end of the school year is in sight but we’re not worrying about how we’re going to keep our kiddies occupied all summer (just yet anyway). It’s time to take a moment and acknowledge our children’s teachers and the hard work they’ve done this year.
Here’s the Savvy shortlist of A+ teacher gifts:
An informal poll of several teachers and moms “in the know” suggested that a good vintage is the number one gift you can give. Not a connoisseur? Start with a list of favourite picks from award-winning author and oenophile, Natalie MacLean. And don’t forget, your local LCBO also has consultants on staff. Just ask.
We are all about practical here at SavvyMom (did you know the definition of savvy is “practical know how”?) so the traditional gift certificate is always a strong recommendation for our teachers. Be creative with where the gift certificate comes from this year and forgo Staples to make it a little more personal. Check out the selections at a local bookstore like Collected Works.
And what teacher wouldn’t appreciate a back and shoulder massage after a whole year of slouching over little desks? Metta Massage offers gift certificates from $40 - $90 plus GST depending on the duration of the massage. Make life easier for some of your friends and ask them to chip in with you on this one. (Now that’s practical!)
A pinch of fresh mint, a bit of basil on that tomato salad…but what teacher has “thyme” to plant them in the spring? Pick up an herb basket the next time you’re at Home Depot or the Superstore. Hanging baskets (with removable hangers!) are also a good pick. Choose the perkiest plants you can find and avoid watering them right before drop off.
Time management is a skill taught early in school these days. Let our fearless leader practice what she preaches with a beautiful faux leather notebook from Plum.
As any teacher will tell you, a genuine note of thanks is truly appreciated. The message should be simple and heartfelt. A little note goes a long way.
