Did you know there’s a formula for a successful long weekend?
Good food + fun activities = happy family memories.
Easter weekend fits into this equation quite nicely. Break it into two parts—the food and burning off the food—and hopefully you’ll find yourself enjoying a weekend where it all adds up.
The Food
We’ve picked up the ham, scoured recipe sites for healthy salads and side dishes, and now it’s time for…the sweet stuff.
Check out the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in the Byward Market if you still have treats to buy. The chocolate is excellent and there’s so much to choose from. We’ve decided that their softball-sized caramel and candy-coated apples are our new favourite things. Please, just don’t tell our dentist.
Another Easter treat we love are the cinnamon buns from The Candy Store. This yummy shop in Westboro carries decadent treats made by McKellar Park mom Catherine Burke. They’re perfectly sticky and delicious. Village Buns Signature Cinnamon Buns come in a recyclable container that goes from freezer to oven. Be warned: it’s not easy saving them for company.
Burning Off the Food
To spice up a long weekend full of family gatherings, get out of the house and burn off some steam (not to mention all those chocolate eggs).
This weekend, you’ll find Easter Egg hunts, crafts and chocolate making at Billings Estate. Meet the Easter Bunny and explore the estate for spring flowers.
The Canada Agriculture Museum (aka ‘The Farm’) celebrates the arrival of spring with a variety of activities throughout the Easter weekend. Visitors will have a chance to make hot-cross buns, hunt for eggs, and meet the new lambs, bunnies, and fluffy chicks.
Happy Easter, from our families to yours!
