Be Aware

You’ve heard the stats: one in four women. You’re also probably aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month but you might not be aware of some new ways we found to help find a cure. Many mom entrepreneurs are doing their part for the cause and we’re pretty sure you’ll find something for everyone, no matter the type:
For the Jewelry Lover
Inspire a fighter or a survivor of cancer with a Megan circle hand-stamped ‘Life is Now’ necklace ($88) from the Suetables’ custom ‘silverwear’ collection. With each purchase (type code RETHINK in the instructions box), Sue will donate $10 to Rethink Breast Cancer. Vancouver jeweler and mom mimiBe will donate $10 from every adorable pink enamel butterfly necklace ($35) sold on her website throughout October. And breast cancer survivor and mom entrepreneur Shari Slonski has designed a beautiful line of awareness bracelets, Beads for a Cure, handmade from glass beads and silver findings, with 20% of all her profits going to cancer charities.
For the New Baby
Pocket a Kangaroo Towel ($47.95) from PetitePosh.com, with its ingenious design that keeps you dry during bathtime and then dries baby afterward in its cozy pouch—the two mom entrepreneurs behind these operations are donating $3 from each towel sold in the month of October to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation in support of Breast Cancer.
The custom-embroidered baby wear from Sew Cute is sooo cute, and it’s even cuter this month when $5 from every Pink 4-Piece Long-Sleeve Outfit goes to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Even better, it’s 10% off ($59.40 from $66) all month so everyone benefits.
For the Kid (or Kid at Heart)
Kids will love the heart-covered pair of red and white Sweetheart Duckies ($5.95) from StyleKid and so will Rethink Breast Cancer who will receive $2 from every purchase in October.
For the Bag Lover
Apparently the bottoms of women’s purses and diaper bags are very unsanitary. So stay clean and help find the cure with the Martha in Pink Purse Caddy ($25) that keeps it off the dirty floor. Available from mom-run store GoneShopping.ca, who will donate $5 from every sale in October to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
For the Little Fashionista
It’s always in fashion to support a good cause so check out fab children’s line Redfish Kids—Clothing for the Courageous. Mom entrepreneur Lorraine Kitsos will be donating 30% of all online sales through the month of October to Rethink Breast Cancer.
Milk Factory mom founder Penny Seto donates $3 from every Crawl. Walk. Run t-shirt ($15) to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation so children can show their support for people in their lives affected by breast cancer.
For the Baby Boomer in Your Life
Designed by mom of two, Carla D’Angelo, founder of Claudia Alan Accessories, the Pink Ribbon Reader collection offers a variety of stylish reading glasses all discreetly embellished with a crystal pink ribbon and packaged in a pink ribbon pouch. Now available online with $2 from each sale going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation all year long.
For the Nursing Mom
Keep your “girls” in style this month with a beautiful Nummies nursing bra. Mom entrepreneur Alison Kramer is donating $5 from the sale of every stylish (yes, they really are) nursing bra to The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation for Cancer Research.
For Every Woman
As moms, we’re usually doing all the reminding, so you deserve the gift of a reminder to conduct a monthly breast self examination. The ingenious DaysAgo digital day counter reminds you how many days it has been since your last exam. Invented by a mom, Days Ago is now available online from mom-run business CaterTot.
There are a lot of ways to help and these inspirational women are making it even easier for us. Support the search for the cure and support mom entrepreneurs too. We think it’s the very breast we can do.
