Bold and Beautiful
Bold and Courageous. Two words that can be used to describe a) moms b) small business owners and c) kids like yours.
This week we’re bringing you a ‘home and away’ celebration of two new Canadian mom-run companies in our two new SavvyMom cities—Vancouver and Ottawa. They both take ‘bold’ and ‘courageous’ very seriously, just like kids do.
From Vancouver, Redfish Kids brings us “Clothing for the Courageous”, a collection of bright and bold tops and pants meant to illustrate the confidence with which kids face the daily kaleidoscope of new experiences. We love the sock monkey Ts, and the sushi print patterns inspired by street fashions in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
You’ll love the fact that the clothes are meant to be easy care and easy-wear. There’s lots of room for movement—and for growth. Pants morph into shorts, and dresses into swing shirts as the child puts on inches. And because Redfish owner and mom of two Lorraine Kitsos doesn’t want our kids clothed at someone else’s expense, you can rest assured that all products are 100 per cent sweatshop-free.
And from Ottawa, WitKnits is capitalizing on a baby’s natural affinity for bold lines and bolder colours. Dale Morris, mom of three has developed a line of momwear that will keep your baby’s eyes riveted on one of his or her favourite places—your chest.
Moms, dads and even big brothers and sisters can shop for long and short-sleeved shirts that sport the simple, high-contrast designs that baby will love. Parents wearing the shirts have found that diaper changes are a snap because baby is so focussed on the picture in front of them. So your life might just be a little easier, and you can also feel good knowing that your baby is getting a head start on some of that neural pathway stimulation.
We think you’ll agree with us—bold is beautiful right across the country. (And welcome to all our new subscribers in Ottawa and Vancouver who have joined us this fall.)
