Animal House
Spring has arrived just in time as we turn our thoughts to springtime flowers, chocolate and of course, baby animals. Inviting those cute and cuddly animals to your child’s next birthday celebration is the cat’s meow for many toddlers to teens.
Of course, some animals are more the slithery and scaly variety but they are exciting additions to a party too. Wrappin About Reptiles showcases at least seven different animals ranging from African tortoises to iguanas to a 14 foot giant Burmese python named ‘Thing’. The animal handlers give a child-friendly discussion about the animals and then the children are given opportunities to safely touch some of the animals (the birthday boy or girl actually gets to hold the animals). Presentations last an hour ($220) and loot bags are available for an additional $5.50 each. Wrappin About Reptiles presentations are best suited to children six and up.
Children’s lit is full of springtime images of baby animals. From baby sheep to baby goats, chicks and bunnies, little people love little animals. Luckily, Butterfield Acres transports their springtime menagerie to little birthday girls or boys. Ideally set up in your backyard, kids can get their fill of petting time. Even better, make your horse lovers dream come true and book a birthday pony for rides or grooming and photos (max six children, six years and up). Parties cost $179 for one hour and come with farm staff and clean up.
Petland’s puppies and kittens can take center stage at your next bash. A good option for any age group, Petland staff bring between six and ten of their pets currently available for adoption including kittens, puppies, birds, reptiles, hamsters and rabbits. The animal handler will discuss pet care and the children have the opportunity to touch, pet or cuddle the animals. Parties cost $125 for up to eight children. Weekends book up quickly so call several weeks in advance or even better, book a weekday after school party.
Make sure you include specific information on your party invitation about the type, size and number of animals attending your child’s party. You may want to invite the parents to participate as well. Some children are nervous around animals and their parents can help them acclimatize (rather than taking your focus away from the birthday child).
Say yes the next time your little one asks for a pony, puppy or giant python for their birthday.
