Room to Grow

The lazy hazy days of summer are coming to a close. Time to celebrate? Maybe if you have school aged kids. For the rest of us, autumn signals the end of unstructured fun in the sun. The million dollar question is: have you made your plans for fall?

Room to Grow is a good place to start. This brand new service run by preschool moms Shannon Kozak and Alisha Brignall offers kids 0 to 4 years old an opportunity for social development through their Playgroup to Preschool program. A Room to Grow opens September 10th. It’s centrally located and caters city wide.

For those kids just dipping their toes into organized social activities, Playgroup (or should we say Super Playgroup) is the place to start. There’s more on the agenda than toys, coffee and chat. Playgroups are moderated by an Alberta Education Certified Teacher who provides support to moms, assistance to kids and advice to anyone that asks. On top of play, kids can paint, sculpt, muck, splash, dig and discover.

Playgroup sessions run $50 per month (for one day plus free play Fridays) or $13 per drop in.

Children 2 1/2 years to pre-kindergarten can shift to the Parented Preschool program which is designed to fill the gap for children that may be socially ready for preschool but are either not 3 years old or potty trained. It also fills a need for kids that fit those traditional parameters but are not quite ready to leave you just yet.

The beauty of three programs under one roof is that children can move from one program to another when they are ready to go (no waiting around for September).

The space will also house additional activities for kids in the afternoons and evenings. Look for Salsa Babies and Fit Baby. First Aid, Shantala Massage and prenatal classes will also make a home at Room to Grow. Let Dad know to look for Saturday morning Daddy & Me playgroup.

And on top of all that, Room to Grow is located steps away from Starbucks (in case Dad wants to bring a latte home to Mom after Daddy & Me playgroup) and The Yoga Studio which offers prenatal, postnatal and family yoga.

So don’t grieve for summer. Instead look forward to golden leaves and new opportunities to meet and mingle this fall.
