Calgary: The Savvy Guide to November

November 2007
Beautiful Fall Leaves

It’s true, November is certainly the most disagreeable month of the year, but keep these tips in mind and the month will be a cinch.

DO
Light a fire and get cozy.
Why? Because it sets a great atmosphere for relaxing family time.

PLAY
Tomato
Why? Because it’s a funny, simple game and we know how to play:

Everyone sits in a circle. The one person who stands in the center of the circle is “it”. Each person takes a turn asking “it” an appropriate question. The only answer to every question can be “Tomato”. The first person to make the center person (It) laugh wins a try in the middle. Ex: What color is your hair? Tomato. What do you brush your teeth with? Tomato.

GET
Your eavestroughs cleaned (if you haven’t already done so).
Why? Because you need to get all those leaves out before the snow falls, then melts and clogs everything up.

GO
To the Calgary Philharmonic’s performance of A Paintbrush for Piccolo.
Why? Give your kids the gift of culture and refinement. Designed specifically for kids, the concert is prefaced by a musical petting zoo where kids can ‘pet’ their favorite instruments. Order tickets now from the CPO Box Office (403-571-0849).

GREEN IT
Wash your laundry with cold water
Why? 80-90% of energy used to wash clothes is from heating the water. Cold water can save the typical family over $120 a year and significantly reduce your carbon footprint.
