Jumping with Jack and Jill
Why is it that getting our butts to bootcamp (especially for that inaugural workout) is so tough?
Maybe because unlike joining a gym, this latest fitness craze usually does not include drop-in daycare. Another excuse, perhaps, but a lack of reliable childcare often negates any ‘me’ time including the recommended 30 minutes of daily heart-elevating exercise.
Fortunately, Erin Penaluna is one of us. She combines her love to move with her love of parenting at Fitness with Kids. With 15 years of personal training and fitness instruction under her belt, as well as numerous certifications, Penaluna is more than qualified to take you through an ever-changing circuit of drills using weights, bands and even playground equipment (read: chin lifts on the monkey bars).
Better yet, Fitness with Kids offers free on-site childcare (for brand new babies up to age five) at indoor sessions currently running in the communities of Arbour Lake (NW) and Douglas Glen (SE). Children play alongside mom during class and are encouraged to take part in running lines, jumping jacks and push-ups. Small children can be incorporated as additional weight—until they get bored. Then they can happily move onto playtime (toys included) under the supervision of an additional caregiver.
Fitness with Kids offers three classes. The Mom & Tot Bootcamp is an overall workout that can be adjusted to accommodate different levels of fitness. Mama Butts, Guts, & Cardio is specifically directed at those problem areas and weight loss. Bootcamp Without Kids is well, without kids. All adult classes are pre-registered and cost approximately $14 per class. Don’t forget to look into the preschool sports classes designed for kids (with or without mom) as well.
Classes will move outside in the summer and the childcare service expands to include school-aged children (for a nominal fee to accommodate extra babysitting).
You’ll never look at the playground the same way again.
