Big Sweet, Small Guilt
Cupcakes are the perfect treat. They satisfy our craving for something sweet and delicious but they just don’t seem as decadent as a giant slab of cake. That’s why we were excited and feeling particularly guilt-free after discovering Ottawa Cupcakery.
These are so good we’re sharing. Our caregivers, the friendly receptionist, the neighbour who feeds our pets while we’re away and maybe even the crossing guard will be receiving one or two of these lovely treats as a token of our appreciation this year. Not only are they a sight to behold, but Cupcakery cupcakes are made with the best ingredients and don’t contain shortening or oil. (Is there such a thing as a healthy cupcake? We say yes!)
If you’re hosting a party (or plan on giving some as individual treats to a bunch of lucky recipients), place your order via their Etsy store. Minimum order is one dozen or 24 minis. If you’re hoping to pace your distribution throughout the month of December, don’t worry. They freeze really well—even with icing!
The only place you can get your fix over the counter is at The Candy Store. Cupcakes are delivered Saturday mornings, so if you want to snatch one up you’d best set your alarm. (They go fast!) Part of the adventure is that you never actually know what you’re going to find until you get there. Will it be carrot cupcakes with cream cheese buttercream? Or chocolate mint cupcakes (chocolate cupcakes filled with dark chocolate ganache and topped with a smooth mint buttercream)? Or maybe it will be “high hat” cupcakes…a chocolate cupcake topped with a small hill of marshmallow icing and dipped in chocolate? Or perhaps you’ll stumble upon a batch of gingerbread, or candy cane, or a baker’s dozen of pretty lemon?
It may sound impossible, but it’s the kind of decision we don’t mind making.
