Remember the love this holiday weekend.

This long weekend is chock full of Valentine’s Day, Family Day, Chinese New Year and the official opening of the Games. It’s a love weekend of Olympic proportions, to be sure.

Here’s how we’re celebrating it in O-town:

Do the ‘Lude
We’re crossing our fingers for favourable weather—no melting or super sub-zero freezing. The official Winterlude website has the times and locations for some great family activities. It’s not just about ice-skating and Beavertails! Check out some live ice-sculpture demonstrations, movies on a snow-screen, arctic sports demonstrations, and more.

Live the Dream
After a day of skating on the Rideau Canal, you’ll definitely want to defrost and catch some of the Olympics. The opening ceremonies are Friday night. Check the official schedule to see which events you want to catch over the weekend. If you’re mobile, follow the Vancouver 2010 Twitter feed for Olympic tweets! (Speaking of which, have you been following the SavvyMom Parents of the 2010 McDonald’s® Hopefuls Blog? The stories have been amazing.)

Reminisce About a Few of Your Favourite Things
The Ottawa Family Cinema is hosting a sing-a-long version of the Sound of Music on Friday, February 12. Perfect for little goat-herders and pint-sized nuns!

Ring in the Year of the Tiger
You already have an idea where to do the grocery shopping for Chinese New Year, but how else can you celebrate? On Saturday, February 13, the Ottawa Chinatown BIA is hosting a free Family Fun Day which will include children’s crafts, food, and entertainment.

Enjoy a Peaceful Valentine’s Dinner
Epicuria Fine Food Store and Catering is offering a special Valentine’s Day menu. Best thing: kids eat free when two or more Valentine menus are ordered. But you better hurry—you need to place your order by 7 pm on February 11. (Missed the deadline? Call your favourite restaurant and order in. Just as long as you’re not cooking!)

So think like an athlete this weekend and bundle up so you can stay tough and weather the elements. Just remember the love.
