The Savvy Five: Valentine’s Day Gifts
Love is in the air and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner (so yep, you might want to tuck that wreath away ‘cause the holidays are over). Need a gift? Here’s this month’s Savvy Five guide to Valentine’s Day gifts for your most loved ones.
Red Bamboo Coral Beads
Good for: You! (We strongly recommend forwarding this email to someone who needs to know!)
Why It Made the List: We’ve been wearing ours since the holidays to all sorts of compliments, the red is the perfect colour for Valentine’s Day and the matching pendants can be customized with any text you want, from your children’s names to some meaningful words. (Available at www.citrussilver.com, $110)
Tony Love Knots
Good for: Him
Why It Made the List: He’ll be all tied up in knots when you show him how much you love him with these stylish and practical silver cuff links that represent equal and balanced parts woven and working together. (Available at www.suetables.com, $57)
Valentine Chocolate Wrappers
Good for: The kids in the class
Why It Made the List: We’re in love with all the custom stationery designs at Leaves & Letters (and especially the cute tins they can be packaged in) so we were thrilled to discover the DIY section on their site where the mom entrepreneur artists behind this site share their design savvy with us less gifted moms. It’s easy to download the customizable artwork, print it out and then get the kids to help with wrapping mini chocolate bars for all their friends (and it beats trying to tape the store bought cards to the chocolate kisses). Available at www.leavesandletters.com
Speckles and Weeds Parent Greeting Cards
Good for: Your friends who are in the same parenting boat as you
Why It Made the List: Mom entrepreneur Jane Desilets has a way with the camera when it comes to capturing the humour in our evolution into parenthood and her new line for Valentine’s Day is no different. We’re stocking up on the ‘Remember when date night was followed by date morning?’ cards for our friends and we think our beloved will get a kick out of the ‘Love is scheduling…during naptime’ card. Available at www.specklesandweeds.com
Custom Photo Greetings
Good for: The grandparents
Why It Made the List: You can literally show them the love with a custom greeting chock full of smiling kiddo faces that you make yourself on Kodakgallery.ca. There are 65 designs to choose from and the pricing (it varies but some are 99 cents each and others come in a set of 10 for $5.99) is cheaper than the drugstore variety. Or try something completely electronic and use SavvyMom Smilebox to send along some of the latest pictures of the gang, complete with music and custom text to narrate the story.
Remember, V-day isn’t just about gifts, it’s all about love. So make sure your kids get that message and spread the love anyway you can. (And that might mean getting started on their cards this week!)
P.S. We had a little facelift over the holidays and today is our big reveal. We’d love to know what you think about our new look. Good, bad or otherwise—we want to hear from you.
