15 Best Summer Camps in Toronto
You spoke, we listened. In answer to your questions about the annual spring mom dilemma of where to send the kids to camp in the summer, we present to you our selections for the 15 Best Summer Camps in Toronto.
Artistic Intelligence
With four locations across the GTA and three age group categories, Children’s Arts Theatre School brings the drama in all forms: puppetry, voice-over, role-playing, creative-movement, script-writing and set-construction. We like that they offer healthy homemade snacks, both half and full days and they have extended hours for working parents. Ages: 3 and up. (Find out more here.)
Go Green
Ever since it became one of the coolest environments for daily eco-minded activities, Evergreen Brickworks has been a force in eco-urban cultural exploration. That continues with their full-day Green City Adventure Camps, where city kids actually get down and dirty with mother earth, building bird’s nests, forts, catching frogs and growing food—encouraged by eco-minded and experienced counsellors. Ages: 6 to 12. (Find out more here.)
Have a Ball
Sports camps in the city are nothing new, but Power Soccer School of Excellence receives raves for its learn-while-having-fun soccer skill camps. Younger kids who may be reluctant to play will likely become engrossed without knowing they are running, kicking and stopping the ball on demand. We like that kids learn the basics of the game from engaged instructors, without getting sick of soccer. Ages: 4 and up. (Find out more here.)
The Island
An ever better reason to spend time on Toronto Island in the summer are the camps at the Waterfront Montessori Children’s Centre which encourage earth awareness through play, using the elements (water, earth, fire), minerals, plants, and humans to inspire daily activities. We like that drop-off is on the city side of the ferry dock and kids who can ride bikes can bring them to camp. Ages: 4 to 8. (Find out more here.)
For the Dogs
We’ve written about Pawsitively Pets before, and we maintain our enthusiasm. Run by an enthusiastic team who encourages structured hands-on learning for kids who love all kinds of animals. We like that the programs are full of variety (cooking pet treats, animal yoga and more) and teach empathy. Ages: 5 to 15. (Find out more here.)
