The Right Way

Car Seat Safety Expert

We try to teach our kids that there is a right way to do things and a wrong way to do things (with an emphasis on the right, of course). And as much as we try to steer them the right way, we need to be reminded of it ourselves sometimes (especially when the rules keep changing).

Take car seat safety as an example. There are a lot of choices and a lot of rules, but since it’s our kids’ safety we’re talking about, we want to be very sure that they are strapped in the right way in the right seat.

Nobody knows this better than Carlo Santangelo, car seat installation guru, savvy dad of two boys (Joshua, 12 and Jonah, 9), owner of a company called Kids On the Go and otherwise known as “the car seat guy”.

How does one become a car seat installation expert you ask? First, you take the St John’s Ambulance course (then you take it again and again every few years) and then you spend 12 years working with parents and advising them on how to install a seat properly. Once you know what the market and the demand is like, you start your own company with added value and rely on word of mouth to spread the news about your services. Voila, Kids On the Go is born.

Carlo is personable, friendly and genuinely wants to help (really, we were skeptical at first too). We trust that he knows what he is doing because he has been installing car seats the right way for over ten years and he has seen a lot of seats. If a seat is too old, he won’t install it. Finally, he knows all there is to know about car seats—and that’s a lot of knowing. He even goes as far as listing his choices on the site for easy reference. Some car seats are good for certain cars and others are needed for different ages and stages of your children’s life. But don’t worry, Carlo will explain it all to you. Front facing, booster or three pointer, Carlo will set you straight and make sure you make the right purchase. Then he will help you install it properly.

Speaking of installing properly, there is no need to drive around looking for him, wait in line or take a course. All you need to do is call him and he will drive to your house, meet you and help you. That’s right…he does house calls.

So if you have a baby, are about to have a baby, know someone who is having a baby or even have pre-school kids in carseats which might not be installed properly (according to Carlo chances are they probably aren’t) you know what to do.

Peace of mind is a wonderful thing when you are searching for a few extra zzzz’s. And we all know we could use a few more of those in our lives.
