It Takes a Village
Whoever penned the proverb “it takes a village to raise a child” must have had Edgemont Village in mind—it’s the ideal place to spend a day (or more) with the kids.
Nestled near the base of Grouse Mountain, this neighborhood hub hums with the sound of little ones.
Start your day ordering up a picnic lunch at La Galleria Fine Foods, where the huge baguette sandwiches easily feed two kids! Or head to The Bakehouse for a rainbow bread grilled cheese and a Smartie cookie (great lunch and pies for grown ups, too). Now you can relax and wander.
Visit BC Playthings and pick up colorful pinwheels and balls for the park or sand toys for a day at the beach. At Kidsbooks in the Village, the cute window display will draw in the little ones and the amazing assortment of books, puzzles and games will keep them coming back. Or stop by the welcoming kids’ area at the library.
Mom’s turn for fun comes at the ‘new kid’ on the block—Pizazz. This sparkly store features the complete Pandora jewelry collection—one of only three such shops in the Lower Mainland. It also boasts beautiful, made-in-BC furniture and luxurious European linens.
Tartooful offers up one-of-a-kind local and Danish-made toys, and art for the young and the young at heart! At 32 Books & Gallery, you’re sure to find a hot new summer read and a cool special occasion card.
When it’s time to eat, grab the picnic blanket and drive to nearby Eldon Park with its refreshing spray pool. Or walk down the trail to Murdo Frazer’s Playground, where the kids can burn off any excess energy.
Edgemont Village also hosts musical evenings every Friday night (July through August), weather permitting. Bring a chair, grab an ice cream or coffee and sit back and enjoy the sounds of summer.
Day or night, you and the kids will soon be feeling hip to the Village vibe!
