What He Really Wants

Father’s Day Gift Guide

It takes the cunning of a spy or detective to uncover the mystery of what Dad really wants for Father’s Day.

So we set out on an undercover investigation to discover the truth and we’ve got some clues for you (hint: it’s a bold and capital idea). Following the traditional trail, our sleuth discovered some gifts that are sure to be appreciated:

  • Now’s a good time to be looking after money so let Dad stash his cash in a stylish fused glass money clip from Made You Look Jewellery, Toronto’s cooperative hand-crafted jewelry market.
  • On a picnic or after hiking a few thousand vertical feet, Dad might want a nice glass of wine to celebrate and what better way to bring it along that in the Klean Kanteen Wine Karafe®. It’s lightweight, shatterproof and toxin-free so Dad can arrive at his destination with a glass of vino in style. (Amazon.ca)

  • If you want to pamper Dad and keep him off his (not stinky anymore) feet, the Peppermint Foot Therapy Locker Room Kit by Upper Canada Soap comes with a class men’s toiletry kit, Intensive Foot Scrub and cooling Peppermint Foot Cream.
  • Electronics junkies and gearheads will love the Yada visor-mounted speakerphone and you’ll love that the handsfree Bluetooth® features make for a safer ride. ($129.99)

But in a twist to the usual plot, our detective unearthed some proof that what dads really want on their special day is the same as what we wanted for Mother’s Day: a good sleep, a little love (from us and the kids), a lot of peace and quiet and an outing with (gulp) the guys. So:

  • Get him out on a free pass with the boys for whatever the game (spectator or player, either one works)
  • Organize a fun family game with no whining, no fighting (of course the kids will cooperate—it’s Father’s Day!)
  • Let him sleep in, nap on the couch, and/or read the paper (even in the bathroom) as long as he wants uninterrupted
  • Fix some of his favourite food (steak, bacon, ribs, chicken wings and beer came up tops in our investigation)

Hopefully this evidence will help you crack the code to create a great day for Dad. Because it’s really no mystery at all: Dads like to be fed and entertained.

So at least once a year, we’ll comply.
