They’re the Triple Crown of any kid’s glorious summer—legs full of mosquito bites, a skinned knee and dirt under the fingernails. We embrace them as badges of honour and we certainly don’t let them discourage the kids from enjoying the great outdoors.
So imagine our delight when we discovered All Terrain, a line of all-natural kids outdoor protection products, which includes everything we need to be prepared. Developed by an outdoor adventurer (and now dad) who was shocked to find a bottle of DEET-based insect repellent he was carrying had spilled and eaten through his backpack (just what is it doing to our skin?), the environmentally-conscious line uses all natural ingredients and recycled/recyclable packaging. Designed for hard-core use, everything is also field-tested, so the products really work.
We’re now starting off our kids’ days outdoors with a spritz of award-winning Kids Herbal Armor natural mosquito repellent ($14.50). DEET free, it’s made from five natural essential oils—including cedar, lemongrass, and geranium so it smells great too—and it really works to keep the mozzies at bay.
And while nothing beats playing outside, when the inevitable scratch or scrape occurs (and we know it will) we’re reaching for the all natural, latex-free EcoGuard™ Bandages ($8.50). They’re made from recycled or recyclable material, natural, food-grade colours and water-based adhesives (no solvents or alcohol) so they come off easier. No more pink marks on the skin when you pull off the bandage. But what our gang likes the most? The fun happy face and leopard spot (oh, so fashionable) patterns.
And when the fun is done but there’s nowhere to wash our hands before our picnic, we’re pulling out the HandSanz antiseptic hand sanitizer with Aloe & Vitamin E ($11.50). Made from all natural ingredients, it’s proven to kill 99.9% of germs and bacteria, sanitizing hands but not leaving them dry. It uses natural wood cellulose instead of carbomer (a synthetic polymer used in most hand sanitizers) to thicken and moisturize.
There is still a lot of summer left, so don’t let a few scrapes and bites ruin your outdoor fun. Your kids are already in training for that Triple Crown…don’t let them down.
